Job hunt etiquette: New Best Practices For 2019 And The Digital Age

The classic interview follow up advice still rings true, but what's changed for job seekers in the digital era? Experts weigh in. Here's a question that's new to me with an excellent answer.

Is it acceptable to text the recruiter after the interview? Have you ever texted a Thank You note to a recruiter?

Text message is the preferred form of communication for many people today – it’s fast, easy, and convenient. So it’s tempting to think that sending a text might be a quicker way to get an answer or second interview from a hiring manager than an email or phone call. But the experts we spoke to were all aligned on this point: When it comes to texting after an interview, don’t make the first move.

“Texting hiring managers directly comes off too aggressive or desperate for most our clients, especially if you’ve never met them,” says Ross. “No matter how good the message may be, no one likes receiving a text from an unknown number. Only use text messages if invited to do so.”
